2021-06 The Storm in Kalorama

On the night of the 9th June in 2021 Melbourne was hit by a storm created by an east coast low pressure system. The effect of such a weather system is for the winds to come from the east which is very rare over the Dandenongs. As a consequence the trees have grown to withstand winds from the prevailing westerlies but not from easterlies. The result of these circumstances coupled with the amplifying effect of climate change can be seen in the following photos. The vast majority were taken in and around Kalorama. Our house miraculously survived unscathed but three of our immediate neighbours were not so lucky.
