2025-10 Arkaba

Soon after returning from Japan, we headed off on a road trip to the Flinders ranges with an included flight over Lake Eyre which has filled to a level not seen since 1974. The timing was not great as we were still tired from the trip to the Kimberly and Japan but since it was a once in a lifetime opportunty, we took it.

We drove to Adelaide via Horsham and had a couple of nights in Adelaide before heading north to the Arkaba Homestead in the Flinders Ranges. Arkaba is the kind of place where they provide activities such as guided hikes and safaris and we took full advantage of that with a hike along part of the Heysen trail and a hike into Wilpena Pound. On day 2 we had a whole day trip by air to see lake Eyre full of water and to visit William Creek on the Oodnadatta track for lunch.
