In the middle of January it was the Great Australian Beer Festival again in Geelong. We were kindly invited to stay again with Allan and Lorelle and so we headed down to Geelong via the Mornington Peninsula and the Sorrento to Queenscliff ferry to avoid the city traffic. Whilst down that way, we decided to visit the historic Point Nepean National Park which is a fascinating place that is famous for several things.
- It was the place the first shots of the first world war were fired after the declaration of war a few hours before
- It is the place where serving Prime Minster, Harold Holt went missing, presumed dead, on the 17 December 1967
- It is the site of Melbourne’s quarantine station from 1852 to 1980
